This was the second garment I made for the Making development module. Keeping with the same theme of the first one, I made a Grecian style long top/dress out of a green organza, and an embroidered net overlay.

Once I was nearly finished making the blue dress, I realised I still had a lot of time before the deadline of the module, so I decided to design and make a second garment. I didn't have enough of the silk left to use on the top, so I used the green organza that was left over from my previous project -the drape project. I then found the embroidered net which I used for the bust, because it went well with the organza, and because it was in keeping with my sub theme of nature and spring time.

Final Garment - Making Development of Blue Dress

This is the making process of my final dress - I made a Grecian style maxi dress. The dress is made out of pure silk and I dip dyed it blue. The pictures show my toile, the making of the pleated bodice, the dyeing and setting of the dye of my skirt, and gathering the skirt and sewing it to the bodice.

I decided to make a Grecian dress because I love the Grecian look, and I thought it would be very appropriate for the upcoming spring/summer. I decided to do dip dye because it looked amazing and gave my dress depth and texture, and I used silk because I could only dip dye a natural fabric, and also it was in keeping with my traditional Grecian theme.

Design Development - Inspiration

These are some images that inspired and influenced the designing of my garment. I especially loved the dress Ariadne wears in the TV show Atlantis, of the dip dye pictures.

Drape Samples for Design Development

These are some of the drape samples I did using moulage to help me brainstorm ideas for my design development. I really liked the belt on top on the dress, and I liked the skirt gathered.

Portfolio Developement

My next project is called Portfolio development. For this project I chose a Greek theme, partly because I love Grecian Dress, and partly from my interest in the TV show Atlantis. As this is the last making project of my Fashion course, I wanted to show a lot of different skills, so straight off I knew I wanted to dye my own fabric and include embroidery and pleating. So I researched the theme of Grecian, embroidery and nature (as I wanted some sort of nature design for the embroidery), and different dying techniques. All of this I included in my sketchbook.

Final Illustration Boards

Here are my final illustration boards, I used a combination of my coloured and uncoloured flats, the scanned line-ups which I coloured and added effects to, and colour and fabric swatches.

I am really pleased with the final result, I think I did very well with this project considering I could barely use CAAD before it, and I think my boards and design really capture the essence of the Reiss brand.

Final Boards Development - Hand Drawn Line-ups

From my Hand drawn and CAAD designs, and with inspiration from Hayden Williams' illustrations, I drew some line-ups for the final illustration boards. I then scanned them onto my computer and added colour and effects using Photoshop and Illustrator.
